5 Kilos

That's how much weight I gained in the last month or so, 5 Kgs. Amazing (shitty) how a few kilos deteriorates your fitness so bad. Just a short while back I used to be able to smoothly run a good 10-12 Kms. Today, I was hardly able to finish a 6K run, and in a lousy timing too. Just hate it.

After that weight I gained, my run is like a very tough struggle. I'm fighting my weak body, and its not fun. When I want to push harder, I start feeling my heavy muscles (body fat actually) pulling me down strongly, and my lungs are so wide open, they're ready to explode. Damn those 5 kilos.

I don't know how can people claim that being slim is a false image that is being sold by celebrities, and is not what we should look up to. Slim (not too slim) is good, its definetely healthy, and that's what everyone should work towards. Can you imagine having big butts and trying to reach deep down for that killer Squash drop shot. Impossible. Being slim is good for your health, and it also looks good on you. A tiny bit of chubbiness is only better in bed.

I like writing about this stuff. No one is ever interested in listening to my jogging experiences. My friends for sure would never want to listen to me analyzing the details of a run, so its great to write about it and just throw it out there.

blogging is bad for you. I'm hoping that moving to Egypt will be better for my health.

Dude, 5km is awesome. I'm totally happy to do 5 km and then hop on the elliptical machine. I've long resigned myself that the 6 miles i used to run easily in college just ain't happening now:)

And I agree with you; healthy--fit-- is good. But is that what most people are striving for?

Like starving yourself off food or going on the bloody Atkins diet is 'healthy.'

Praktike, apparently so. So now instead of really running, I blog about it!

Sallinette, they're 6Km not 5 yet. Hopefully I'll get back soon. And you can do your 6 miles again. You're too young still to resign.

Hellme, I don't know about starving. I'd just like to stick to reasonable portions of healthy food. My problem is I just love to keep on eating!

Yup, we're all bred on excess I guess :)

Fast Mondays/Thursdays or one of them. Eat decent portions. Drink lots of water. Eat lots of whole wheat. A fruit before big lunch. No coke. Exercise regularly. And you will be fine.

So,how come no one commented on this 'better in bed' thing!

Haal, either no one noticed, or everyone agrees.

my bad, 6 km it is :)

i like healthy food, too, but i'm addicted to fanta orange. we don't have it in the states so i drink like 3 cans a day.

Mohamed said...

You know what else you don't have in the states that's pretty good (other than Fairuz), Schweppes Tangerine.

egyptiansally said...

yes, i love schweppes tangerine!! but i've only ever had it at fool and ta3meyya places like akher sa3a.

ran 7 km just to see if i could do it. my knees are pissed at me.

Mohamed said...

Cool cool.. akher sa3a, eh.. nice!

Just stick to the 3 p's and you'll get back to your 6miles. Patience, persistence, and perseverance.

Isn't that soreness after a good exercise just the best. Your body will thank you for it.

as for the chubbiness part, there's an old arab proverb describing chubby woman as
تشبع الرضيع و تدفئ الضجيع

A post about fitness and you still bring up sex in the end...

Mohamed said...

Sex is a form of exercise Jeff. Good for your fitness.

sounds chubby this radee3 dagee3 proverb.

Mohamed said...

I don't know about this proverb, but that's not what I meant when I said a bit of chubbiness is good in bed. Has nothing to do with warmth or food!

Never understood why chubbiness is handy in bed..hate chubby men myself, women can hide it better...5Kgs u must be kidding have put on at least 10kgs since 9/11. Stopped going to the gym..was doing it five times a week..no time...too much to observe around...my eyes are even getting fat...but shall try to overcome.

Should I really explain?! I'm afraid explaining would turn this into one of those other sites.

9/11 was a long time ago. Get over it.

BTW, loved that quote you mentioned earlier, "Knowing that I'm nothing, is wisdom. Knowing that I'm everything, is love".

Don't know anything about the culture of Blogs...do u mix apples with organes-or u keep them seprate..i won't delve but just to let u know the quote belongs to a sufi scholar..Abu Yazid al-Bistami. I am into Rumi myself.http://www.rumi.org.uk/.
You do not need to believe in anything in particular to enjoy his wisdom. I do not want to come across as one of those Hare Krishna distributig pamphlets. And yep...i will return to the bloody gym. It felt great having all that energy and clarity of mind that i had then.

Came upon your page and started laughing because it was the same problem I encountered a week ago- stopped excercising during vacation (1month) and when I came back to Cairo felt like a hippo. What I did was run 14km in one day to the point of exhaustion and suffered immensely and did 12km the day after and 10km the day after..and then day 4 things were back to normal... if you run and go *balls to the wall* (excuse my expressions) 100% then afterwards is no problem- very sore first couple days, then no pain!- Chor
