Terrorists strike again

Damn. One hell of a terrorist attack in London. Devastating. We already know how mindless sick bastards those terrorists are. But I have one question, what the hell have Bush and Co. been doing for the last few years? Four years fighting that alleged war on terror, making us live hell in the process. And our Ambassador to Iraq has just been executed today. Boy, do I feel safer now!

I hope he doesn't go occupy Syria now, and threaten Iran in order to rid the world of the last remaining evil regimes which are breeding terrorism (as if North Korea does not exist). Its obvious who's breeding terrorism, and its not Syria, nor Iran. Not even Iraq. Or maybe they can bring Saddam out of his cell and beat the crap out of him, take naked pictures of him, and flush the Quran in the toilet so that he admits that he had links with the London terrorists.

Americans, can you please impeach your idiotic president.

I don't want to forget the wrong that the terrorists did here, but we just need to put everything in perspective. The terrorists are criminals who did a heinous crime and must be punished, and Bush and Co. should be questioned for messing with the world claiming that he is punishing them, when he's not, allowing them to go further. And then who's to blame? us, the rest of the Muslim world. Well, I won't sit and take the blame for something that I have nothing to do with.

Condolonces to all those innocent people who have died and have been injured. Terrorists, go to hell.

I agree with you... if anything, today's attack is reminder that the world still isn't a safe place.

If anything, US foreign policy that past 4 years has made it MORE unsafe.

Sure we'll try to get some democracy going on here, just have your president stop supporting our dictator, ok? And when he decides to stop supporting him, let him not do it like he did it in Iraq and Afghanistan, because that won't help still, ok?

While you're at it, why don't you answer my question; what have Bush and Co. been doing for the last four years with their alleged war on terror? Shouldn't you start asking him that?!

Mohamed said...

Well they are certainly NOT better off than before.

All I'm asking is that Americans start making their president accountable for his claim of eradicating terror through self-serving means.

"51,000,000 Muslims are able to have free elections. That didn't help? Please answer my question: are they worse off than before?
"

Afghanistan: Bin Laden & the top AlQaeda leadership together with their Taliban supporters are still on the loose, terrorizing people & sending their thugs to blow up everything from Cairo to Morroco to London yesterday.

Iraq: A country where AlQaeda previously had no presence or hope of a presence has now become an AlQaeda stronghold, a training ground from which terrorist pour into neighboring countries & destablize the whole region. If things go on as they are with any luck, when the despots in Saudi Arabia & the rest of the Gulf region are finally toppled we'll get a bunch of Taliban-like Bin Laden-run regimes in their place.

I frankly don't know if the Afghanis & the Iraqis are better off now that they can go & vote once a year or whatever. You would have to ask them. But I do know that if I was Bin Laden I'd be writing Bush a thank-you note right now.

LouLou said...

" But that policy of "realism" is what Bush has been dismantling. Think about it: he has repudiated the foreign policy of his own father in favor of promoting democratic freedom."

Why do Americans feel they absolutely have to meddle one way or the other?First you stuff dictators down our throat. Then when you get tired of that game you carpet-bomb us all so you can stuff your version of democracy down our throats.

Whatever happened to the right to self-determination?The right of people to determine their own destiny?

"Maybe having our Secretary of State visit Egypt and push for democracy in public means nothing.
"

On the contrary that was one of the few good things this administration has managed to do. If the US had pursued a policy of using its influence to push for democracy PEACEFULLY for the last 50 years we'd all be much better off today.

Well, I think you'll enjoy your life and afterlife away from us Disgusting.

Some of us think the same way you do actually, feeling sick to our stomachs from the heinous killings, except we think a little bit more before we ignorantly attack a whole religion that 1 billion people believe in.

LouLou said...

Disgusted,

Actually the first person to call Bin Ladenists Freedom Fighters & compare them to your Founding Fathers was Ronald Reagan right here .

So I guess that makes Ronald Reagan immature & disrespected in the West then.

As for Islam being respected or disrespected by the West, I hate to disappoint you but people don't base their choice of faith or their relationship with God on your respect or disrespect. Islam has existed for 1500 or 1600 years now. It didn't wait for your permission to come into existence & it doesn't need your respect to exist now. It's here to stay whether you like it or not. Live with it. And try to get over yourself will you?

Mohamed said...

And by the way Disgusting, here's the Muslims scholars' condemnation. I hope your media tells you about that before you keep on your endless ignorant ranting about a faith that you know nothing about.

LouLou said...

"You call Iraq an Al Qaeda stronghold. By what definition? Yeah, they're blowing up IEDs and car bombs."

By the definition that all the terrorists who are blowing up people in Saudi & Kuwait & Qatar are returning from Iraq where they were trained & radicalized.Just like the Afghan Arabs returning from Afghanistan to Algeria & Egypt did in the 80's.

And also by the definition that AlQaeda can kidnap top foreign diplomats at will. Not to mention assassinate just about any aid-worker or foreign official it chooses to.Doesn't that indicate to you a lot of freedom of movement?

"But do they have Iraqi popular support? Do they control territory? Hell no.
"

When did AlQaeda ever have popular support anywhere? And AlQaeda never controlled territory. The Taliban did. AlQaeda is not a government or a regular army. It's a terrorist organization. All it needs is money, training grounds & an ideological breeding ground.

"The Taliban stoning women to death for violating a dress code or asking to work? "

No actually. Am a woman. That is sort of what I was complaining about.

"So you prefer the stability of Saddam and his mass murders? Saddam invading his neighbors? "

No but was a full-scale invasion really necessary to topple Saddam?Doesn't the CIA know how to do an assassination or a coup anymore? With all the practice they had during the Cold War one would have expected them to do much better.

The problem is not toppling Saddam. The problem is carpet-bombing the entire country back to the Stone Age, dismantling the Army & the Civil Services & not having a plan to establish security in the aftermath. That was bound to lead to the kind of power vacuum that terrorists thrive in.

Not every problem in the world can be solved by invading something you know.

"Condi Rice was speaking Bush's mind when she visited Egypt. Some perspective on that here: http://www.commentarymagazine.com/article.asp?aid=12001023_1
"

Thanks. But you're preaching to the choir on this one. Of course I support the administration's push for democractic change in the region. I mean about time too! But that doesn't mean I have to like the mess in Iraq does it?

LouLou said...

Mohamed,

It just occured to me that you might feel am taking over your blog by responding to comments that are addressed to you. Do you want me to shut up?

LouLou said...

" The US actually aided the mujahadeen to rid them of the Soviets."

That's just the point. The US & it's client regimes in the region funded & supported the spread of Wahabism in the 70's & early 80's.Have you noticed that most if not all the Afghan Arabs come from US-friendly states? How many Syrian or Iraqi jihadists have you heard of so far? They're all Egyptians or Saudis or Algerians or Morrocans or Jordanians. Saudi petrodollars in alliance with US arms & political support created this phenomenon & facilitated the radicalization of an entire generation. It was this policy that led to the suppression of all opposition in the region except the Wahabi branch of political Islam. Why?Because it was thought to be useful against the Soviets.

You don't mess with that kind of fanaticism. It's insane to think you can actually control it. Of course it was going to come back to haunt you.And it's laughable to support this sort of ideology in the name of democracy & freedom.

The returning Jihadis didn't actually turn against you at first. They went back & blew up their own countries first as could be seen in Algeria & in Egypt. And even then they were still being given political asylum & allowed to raise funds & propagate their ideas from the US & other Western capitals.

It wasn't until Sept.11 that you guys really woke up to this threat.

"How'd we get to be #1 on Osama's sh*t list? He's a psycho, and psychos don't need to be radicalized.
"

I think you lost him when you stationed infidel troops in the Holy lands of Saudi Arabia. He said so himself. But that's really beside the point. When you have so many people radicalized, trained from the Afghan war they were going to start looking for another war sooner or later.

Propping up fundamentalist militias is no smarter or moral than propping up dictators. These are the kinds of chickens that will always come home to roost.

"We did not carpet bomb Iraq. That is nonsense. "

You did destroy the infrastructure & you still haven't managed to fix it because no effective reconstruction can take place without security.

"If you're ever in California, I'd love to have you over for dinner.
"

Am graduated from California by the way. University of Southern California.

Am not a knee-jerk anti-American. I just cannot like a lot of US foreign policy especially in the ME.Too much meddling. Americans have to realize that if you try to control everything then people will blame you for everything. It's good to let people make their own mistakes sometimes. Power brings with it responsibility whether you like it or not.

Mohamed said...

No Loulou, on the contrary, keep going. I don't feel this argument is worth my effort, the wrong that Bush is doing is pretty clear without having to dig out the obvious established facts that seem to be still hidden from the American public (such as there are no WMD in Iraq, and there were never links to AlQaeda --except now), this is not the point however.

Californian, so what is your point, I'm lost here? Is it that Bush has made the world a safer place, and Iraq and Afghanistan better places, and the Middle East is on its way to reform because of him?! I thought the purpose of the war on terror, the new crusade, was to eradicate the heinous killings such as 9/11. Take another look, its not working, bombs everywhere, dead bodies everywhere, in your countries and in ours, dead from your fellow citizens and from ours. Its not working, talk to your president about it, ask him where he's spent those trillion of dollars and if it has made any of us safer. Ask him why he sacrificed those hundreds of American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, and if it was indeed to make us (or you) safer, or was it for other reasons.

I don't wanna forget the wrong that the terrorists did here, but we just need to put everything in perspective. The terrorists are criminals who did a heinous crime and must be punished, and Bush and Co. should be questioned for messing with the world claiming that he is punishing them, when he's not, allowing them to go further. And then who's to blame, us, the rest of the Muslims world. Well, I won't sit and take the blame for something that I have nothing to do with.

I have visited California before, and its a lovely place. Take it easy.

Loulou pretty much replied to most points but I would like to reply to Californian on one point here.

“Rather than suggest we impeach our president, why don't you work to get true democratic government in your own country? And intelligent economic policy while you're at it, so that your fellow citizens can be busy enjoying a prosperous life instead of simmering in resentment.”

I can’t believe that you have the audacity to bring this specific point out. So what are you trying to imply? That Americans are enjoying living in prosperity under the current administration?.

Excuse me Sir I’m an honest American citizen that pays 35% taxes of my income that was spent on a false war. A war that was launched based on the weapons of mass destruction that was never found. Who are you to suggest a prosperous life to others when the US economy and average American is struggling to live a decent life?.

This administration failed to provide:-

-Reasonable health care to its citizens or control private insurance companies from the tremendous high costs of health insurance costs that became impossible for citizens to afford since the year 2000.
-Solve the mal practice crisis in many specialties especially OB doctors that are not available to deliver and they have to shut down their practices and patients have to drive for 3 hours to find the nearest doctor.
-Quality education for our children and above all free college education.
- Decent program for senior citizens so they don’t have to clean in restaurants at the age of 73
-Decent Environment solutions for better living

If I were you I would focus on our internal issues for a better living instead of pointing your finger at other citizens when you can’t do anything to change the current living situation of your own country.

How much do you pay for your monthly electricity bill, taxes and Gas in California ? the answer to that should hopefully get you thinking about how some citizens of the world can’t do much about terrible administration they are under that cares less about it’s own citizens.

Californian,

I'm not a liberal nor a democrate, too bad the Great America had nothing else to offer its citizens but two eternal parties that do no good to its people. (poor Nader he is stuck inbetween)

When you address me next time don't use words like "read up Kiddo" and don't worry about other readers they can scroll down dear and let me waste sometime on you.

I didn't bring up the unemployment but thank you for reminding me. It seems like you need to read in depth about Unemployment because it is not to be measured by simplistic number that you repeat after the Gov. To measure the administration you need to back up a bit and evaluate it since the year 2000.

UNEMPLOYMENT
Published on Thursday, July 3, 2003 by the Associated Press

“WASHINGTON - The nation's unemployment rate shot up to 6.4 percent in June, the highest level in more than nine years, in an economic slump that has added nearly a million people to jobless rolls in the past three months. Businesses slashed 30,000 jobs in June for the fifth straight month, with cuts heavily concentrated in the nation's factories, the Labor Department reported Thursday.”
“Manufacturing led in payroll cuts last month, with 56,000 jobs lost. Since July 2000, the nation's factories have cut 2.6 million jobs.”

August, 2004

“Aug 25, 2004Since George W. Bush took office, there are 1,200,000 fewer jobs for American workers --- the greatest sustained job loss since the Great Depression. There are currently 8.2 million unemployed Americans. But it's much worse than unemployment figures would suggest. Figures only report those who are currently receiving unemployment benefits, and many of those who are currently unemployed have long since exhausted their benefits. "Marginally attached*" workers number 1.6 million, and of these, there is a subset of 504,000 discouraged workers --- those who have not searched for work because they believe there are no jobs available for them.

There is also a large number of UNDERemployed workers who are not reflected in the metrics. These are people who have been forced to accept low-paying jobs that do not utilize their skills, education and experience. I personally know many of these people -- a V.P. of engineering who now walks dogs for a living; a senior project manager who works part-time at Starbucks; a systems administrator who makes deliveries for Kinkos. These people scoff at Bush's campaign slogan that claims "we've turned a corner" in this economy (unless you interpret it as meaning that we've turned a corner downward). “

November 20, 2003
Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle sent the following letter today to President Bush regarding unemployment insurance:

November 20, 2003

“Dear Mr. President:

This holiday season is bringing more of the same bad news that millions of jobless workers heard last year. Three million private-sector jobs have been lost since January 2001; nine million Americans are unemployed; over two million workers have been unemployed for more than six months; and 1.4 million workers have exhausted their unemployment benefits but still have not found work. American workers are weathering the effects of an economy where there is only one job for every three individuals searching for a job. And yet, the Republican leadership in Congress is refusing again this year - as it has in the past - to address this urgent problem.”

On the Senior citizens and Medicare issues

I would like to introduce
"Mark Benoit /
Juana Silverio
702-592-4501

The above are senior citizens that are not part of any political group.

"SENIORS NOT SPARED IN BUSH BROKEN PROMISES""Policies aiding corporate friends while seniors suffer"

Las Vegas – Once again, the promises of candidate George W. Bush seem made to be broken, especially his many promises to Nevada’s senior population. At a time when seniors should have peace of mind about their financial future, Bush’s policies are giving them sleepless nights as they worry over the future of Social Security and the escalating costs of prescription drugs.
Even worse, the policies of this administration are geared toward helping the pharmaceutical industry and HMOs, not seniors. From raiding the Social Security Trust Fund to pay for his tax cuts for the wealthy to trying to privatize Medicare, the Bush Administration has done little to honor America’s seniors."

Bush Promise:
-“Seniors with the greatest need will get the most help. Low-income seniors will pay a reduced premium or no premium at all, and lower or no co-payments for their medications.” [Source: Bush Remarks in Las Vegas, Nevada, 11/25/03]
-“When the full drug benefit arrives in 2006, all seniors will be eligible for prescription drug coverage for a monthly premium of about $35. The result is that for most seniors without coverage today, the Medicare drug plan will cut their annual drug bills roughly in half.” [Source: Bush Remarks in Las Vegas, Nevada, 11/25/03]
-“Secondly, those who have retired or are near retirement get all the benefits promised, nothing will change.” [Source: Bush Remarks at Campaign Stop at Colonial High School, Orlando, 3/23/00]
-“Well, let me tell you, the budget I submitted to the Congress sets aside all the money that's supposed to go to Social Security for only one thing: Social Security.” [Source: Bush speech at the Portland Chamber of Commerce, 3/23/01]
Bush Broken Promise
-Nevada’s uninsured paying 72% more than the government for prescription drugs. For instance, a year’s supply of Zocor to combat high cholesterol costs the uninsured $857 more than the federal government pays. [“Paying the Price,” Public Interest Research Group Education Fund, July 2003]
-More than 22,000 poor Nevada seniors and disabled persons will face higher drug costs under Bush Administration’s prescription drug plan. Under the Medicare bill signed by Bush, 22,439 poor Nevada seniors and disabled persons would see their prescription drug costs increase. [“Congressional Prescription Deal,” Institute for America’s Future, November 2003]
-Bush Administration opposes measures to lower drug costs. The Bush Administration continues to oppose measures that would allow drugs to be re-imported from Canada at substantial savings to working Americans and senior citizens on fixed incomes. More than 71% of Americans support reducing costs by buying drugs from Canada. The plan is opposed by the pharmaceutical industry, which contributed $500,000 to Bush in 2000 – making him their largest recipient. In the 2002 election cycle alone, the pharmaceutical industry contributed more than $22 million to Republican Congressional candidates. [Once Just a Trickle, Canada’s Rx Drugs Pouring into USA,” USA Today, 10/8/03]
-Up to 17,000 seniors in Nevada would lose employer-sponsored drug coverage under Bush Administration’s prescription drug plan. Under the Medicare bill signed by Bush, between 11,625 and 17,438 Nevada retirees are expected to lose employer-sponsored drug coverage. The loss in coverage is expected despite a $16 billion subsidy added to the bill for businesses to maintain prescription drug coverage for their retired workers. [“Congress Prescription Deal,” Institute for America’s Future, November 2003]
-Bush Administration leaves Social Security $10.5 trillion short of funds. Retirees and workers are owed $14 trillion in benefits from Social Security. Due in part to the Bush Administration using the Social Security surplus to fund its tax cut, the system is more than $10.5 trillion short of funds needed to pay out benefits owed. [“It’s Even Worse Than You Think,” New York Times, 10/9/03; “Bush Plan to Rescue Social Security Won’t Work,” USA Today, 3/3/02]
-Bush Supports privatizing Medicare. Rather than providing coverage through Medicare, the Bush Administration wants to force seniors to adopt private coverage to receive full prescription drug coverage. Bush’s plan would force seniors to choose between the prescription drugs they need or the doctors they trust. [Congress Poised to Pass Medicare Bills; Prescription Drug Benefit Is Centerpiece of Biggest Revamp in 38 Years,” Washington Post , 6/27/03]
This is yet one more link in the George W. Bush ‘Chain of Broken Promises.’ From No Child Left Behind to Yucca Mountain, America Coming Together (ACT) is documenting the many broken promises from the Bush Administration as well as Republican leaders in Nevada. Then on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 (the day candidate Bush attended fundraising events in Incline Village) a human chain will be forged symbolizing the many failures of this administration to deliver for Nevada."

Twosret said...

But wait Californian there is more; you said:-

"............malpractice lawyers are enabled by the Democrat party. Heck, they even ran one for vice-president. Read up, kiddo."

What did the current administration do to correct the Democratic party? What have they done to change the malpractice insurance crisis? NOTHING, ZILCH, ZERO.

Now let us go the official site of the American Academy of Family Physicians http://www.aafp.org/careerads/
Let us look for a job for a Family Physician with OB.... how many do we find? let us look at the entire East Coast of the prosperous United States of America the states of NJ, PA, VA, MD, DC etc... how many jobs do we find under the current administration? Embarrassing isn’t it!

Wait Wait Californian there is more; you said:-

"Check out Canada, where waiting lists for surgeries go for 18 months -- but it's free."

What a lame statement to compare America's terrible healthcare system to Canada but too bad, you are very unlucky tonight. I'm a Canadian who lived in Canada for 16 years and my whole family still lives in Canada and enjoy the free medical care system. My family consists of 6 doctors (different specialties), 3 pharmacists and the rest of them are Patients. My grandmother needed hearing aide last year. The Canadian Government paid $5,000 all her costs of hearing aide. My grandmother never paid a penny for her medications or doctors’ visits. In the past very few years in Canada (7 years) medical care in Canada got affected and became slower but there was no case when an urgent surgery needed wasn't performed on a patient for 18 months. You are repeating bogus information flying through your small TV screen.

When was the last time you made an appointment in the United States with a dermatologist? It took me 4 freaking months to get an appointment and my husband is a doctor and it was done based on doctor to doctor courtesy. When a surgery was scheduled as urgent it took the insurance 8 weeks to reply and deny it and we had to fight to get my surgery done, as it is an urgent medical necessity and it was performed 18 weeks after my first request. I pay $1,000 a month for my medical insurance. Shame on this administration!

Finally you said:-

“If Saddam's own generals didn't know, the rest of the world could not either. Clearly, Saddam was signalling that he did. His bluff backfired.”

You should be ashamed of this statement unless you are willing to say this to the families of the 150,000 + CIVILIAN deaths, We all know that the Bush administration would have gone to war with Iraq anyway whether the WMD was found or not.

Very shallow is the least I can say and I am afraid I’m running out of time to waste on an American who is full of arrogance and resentment to why America’s foreign policy is hated throughout the world.

I would highly advise you to not come and point a finger on other nations because you know nothing about those nations if you know nothing about your internal affairs.

LONDON is CALLING?!

Absolutely! (perhaps)

Events in London last Thursday prompted me to write & revive my Blog after weeks of procrastination. I had to. There was a bit of sense of responsibility as a global citizen.

http://babalshams.blogspot.com

I’ll start with what I wrote to some English Folks few hours after the braking news of the London Bombing:

This is to express my deepest sorrow, condemnation, and sincere sympathy with regard to the shocking and the appalling violent coward attacks in London earlier today. I hope that you, your families, and all your loved ones are safe. I’m sure you’ve got the strength and the resolve to face up this tragedy, I wish you the comfort and the safety of all your loved ones. - From Cairo

I here extend these words to all Londoners…

London is engraved in my audio memory since I was 5 years old. “HoNa London” in Arabic -“This is London” was my dad’s favorite source of news – and still is - for tens of years.

When I was a teenage, on my own, I wanted to visit London for a summer of independence and fun. The British councilor Rep did not grant me the Visa. The reason then, I was “too young”. In my Opinion then, the decision of not giving me the visa was a bit arrogant perhaps due to second hand and inaccurate information.
I ended up visiting Germany, Switzerland, and Austria during this summer but among a group of older youth supervised by adults. I loved Germany, I disliked England then. I was 16.

Two years later in my way to America as a new immigrant, There was a London Stop over. I was only granted 36 hours Visa to visit London and My dearest uncle who lived in London at this time. He loved London. Then I liked his company for few hours during some sightseeing. “Arrogant” was my view of England for many years due to the insistence of only issuing me 36 hours visa. I did not want and did not care to visit England even after many years of not needing any advance Visa to visit.

Only Last August I had to travel for Business to the UK for 4 days. I’ve stayed in London & commuted to my business meetings. Grownup, I loved London.
Of course there was not enough time to do London proper. I loved the Tubes, the Double Deck Busses, the Taxis, and most of all walking in the streets of London.

I’ve done at least one important thing that London tourists do. I‘ve watched a play.
Franco Zeffirelli's “Absolutely - Perhaps” was brilliant. I’ve loved it. One can look at almost any affair and analyze for sanity including the latest Insane London Bombings which I may take on in another post in this Blog soon.
http://www.theatreguidelondon.co.uk/reviews/absolutelyperhaps03.htm%20
I vowed to myself that I shall return to London for more. In fact I could have been to London this summer with one of the family youngster. Because I believed that living in London even for few weeks, it would teach a youngster how to live responsibly, if only to use London great Public Transit Systems.

We could have been in the midst of one of those horrible places last Thursday. Just the thought of this, makes the sense of responsibility to write the above words of Condemnation and Sympathy to Londoners.

One would add the admiration to the people of London and their local Leaders in particulars. Brian Paddic, the head of London Metro Police Services exemplified the utmost responsibility and professionalism in the early hours after the tragedy uniting the community by refusing to associate Islam and the insane perpetrators of these crimes. Sky News had done extremely well in not jumping into conclusions. They kept covering the Human story in a very professional way. The Mayor of London Ken Livingstone is as great as ever, pure courage and resolve. http://www.london.gov.uk/mayor/mayorbiog.jsp
Even Blair had done well, as he pulled the G8 with the Aid to Africa and the Palestinian Authority realizing that this is “Only the Beginning”. This is Hope.

My vow to return to London is my solidarity to Londoners as much as it is my solidarity with the Palestinians, the people of Iraq, the poor in Africa, and all oppressed in the world. Hope, prosperity, freedom, and liberty for all.

"Ronald Reagan provided arms and funds for Afghanistan to be free from Soviet troops that put explosives in childrens toys."

And I guess the Mujahideen were being really nice & kind & gentle to Afghan women & children back when Ronald Reagan was calling them Freedom Fighters.

We are talking about people like Dustum who set up a sex-slave camp for Shia women aren't we?

"For ignorant scumbags to equate the term Freedom Fighter with the current Islamic scum in Iraq and with Al Qaeda shows how juvenile the Islamic mind can be."

But again it was Ronald Reagan & his government who first created the confusion. The 'current Islamic scum with AlQaeda' are exactly the same people he named his Freedom Fighters.

"A community that can whip up thousands to protest a rumor that the Koran was flushed down the toilet, cannot even muster a whimper to protest brutal bombings against fellow Muslims and innocent civilians. "

Strangely enough I agree with that. The first trace of intelligence you've displayed here so far.

I did think the same thing myself when I saw the recent uproar in some Islamic communities over the Quran being desecrated.

Of course we have a right to resent the descration of our Holy Book. But you're right we should also be angry when terrorists desecrate our faith by using it as justification for their depravity. Not to mention that in so doing they force us to have to deal with people like you.

I think it's the fact that the religioud fandamentalist minority are the most vocal in the Muslim world. They make a lot of noise.

The silent majority in the Muslim world just isn't given to that kind of political demonstration of our feelings.Am a lot more upset by what happened in London than I was by the what the Americans did with the Quran in Guantenamo. But I wouldn't go out in the street & scream about it.

Look if your belief in this . statement is religious & beyond the reach of rational discussion let us all know so we can all leave you to it.Wouldn't want to interfere with anyone's dogma.

The fact is:

1) You don't know if Iraqis or Afghanis are really better off anymore than I do. You just hear things just like me. The only people who really know are the Iraqis & Afghanis themselves & they're not here to tell us.

2)Whether Iraqis or Afhganis are better off is really not the topic here. The topic is what has the war on terror done to impede/reduce/prevent acts like what happened in London? - which was the whole point of the war on terror.

Californian, you can try as hard as you can to convince yourself that the Iraqis are better off, and if that will make you sleep at night with a clear conscious, then what the Iraqis think doesn't matter --aslong as you're convinced. That is not the reason why you went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan however. The reason was to make the world a safer place, remember. The cause of the war seems to change every few months, but that's fine. We'll take anything that Bush shoves down our throats.

Disgusting, you make me laugh. Just watch out because your father is looking for you.

Jane and JohnK,
Thanks for your kind comments. I honestly feel at this point that the discussion with Californian is like pissing in the wind.

Just did a manicure today not worth chipping my color typing ;)

disgusted, i don't think you know anything about Islam except what you read in your "major papers" as you say? do not talk ill of something you know nothing about.

treating woman? unless you are a muslim woman, you don't know how they are treated. i am a muslim woman, and i am not a coward, and i have no problem with how islam treats women. i wouldn't trade islam for anything in this world. you are just too blind to think that maybe not all people in this world want exactly what you would want. obviously we are not all like you .
if a christian bombs something up in the name of christianity, and the church once says these are not the teachings of christianity, then you are not responsilbe for their actions. we have nothing to apologize for. we do not need to defend ourselves everytime someone does something like this, we do not need to do a million man march.
if you believe islam is a disgusting religion because of what is happening now, without bothering to know anything except what your papers tell you , then i say to you; it is your loss. as for the bad words and language you say about Islam, God is a witness to waht you say. maybe your sticks and stones can't break my bones, but you are certainly the one who will be held accountable for them.

andi did not see americans marching in millions when their govrnement time and time again protected and aided in killings of muslims. you think that if an army does it, or a nation does the killing then it is not wrong?
it is only terror when it is done by hidden indivisuals or in a suicide bomb?

how many times have you personally gone out to the street to protest injustice and murder done by your governemt? and you on the other hand are responsible for what your government does since you have elected them. we on the other hand had no hand in these terrorist breed. if you read a little more, you would know that you had more of a hand in it than we did.

ok disgusted
ok first of all if you want to have an opinion about islam well
try to read about is from scholoered books and from quran teaching and then when you are qualified you can make debate

you talk about how islam treat women

islam honoured the women and signified her importance in being a partner and forbidded the adultery and controlled the number of women to be married and the number of divorces a woman can have from her husband, so that he wont take it for granted and divorces her every while
she has the right to accept or refuse whom she is marrying
she has the right if she dislikedher husband to break up and have her divorce

our prophet prayers and peace be upon him had recommeneded the muslim to be gentle iwth women in several saying by him and in his last speach he recommended the men to be gentle with women and to keep up on prayers , the last speach was like the final recommending thing see how islam honiured the women
when a man asked prohet mihamed PPBUH who should be the most i should care about or deserves the most devotion prohet mohamed mentioned the mother and then the mother and then the mother and then the father

Actually there is a lot and a lot can be said about how women were honoured by islam and islam respects us , much more than that

ok some muslims do bad things but we cant say that they do that bec of islam teachings no !

Everyone digs out something to prove one is right and the other is wrong.....and the truth will always remain above all these little proofs. Weird!

I am a non-Muslim, western woman and would not presume to know if the Iraqi or Afghani people are any better off than they were before my country invaded them. All I know is what I read in the papers and see on the TV and I am not naive enough to believe either one gives me the whole story. I do not have enough information or education to say one thing or another regarding Islam or Muslims in general. In fact I have had only one encounter with a Muslim family, years ago when I was flying to Spain. I met them on the airplane and all I can say is that the children were well-behaved, the wife was kind, and the husband was thoughtful. I found them to be respectful, polite, and generous. If this typical of true Muslims, then I can only say good things. There are bad people who do terrible things everywhere in the world and I don't think it's right to condemn a whole religion or a whole ethnic group based on the actions of some extremists.

[Disgustedwithislam has deleted his comment above. But I insist that he/she sticks to his/her words. So here is the comment that he/she has deleted for everyone to know how these people think.]

I notice many of the ignorant Islamic women, who spend their lives in veils and locked away with only a computer to connect with the outside world are attempting to counter the tremendous negative opinion of Islam and Muslim caused by the Terrorists by calling Westerners names and saying we don't understand how it is. Some say they have no problem when Islam supports routine mass raping of women as punishment, or banning alimony to support abandoned women. The civilized world does have a problem with this. The proper and mature response to any religion that does wrong is condemnation and punishment for those that do these things and attacks against a religious system that supports such actions. An example of such mature action is the reaction against the Catholic Church in the USA with revelations of child molestation by priests. Attacking those that reveal these revolting acts is a childish outlash. Attributing justified criticisms of the disgusting acts of Islam to just individuals is a cop out. The religion is defective and disgusting that imposes and permits such behavior. Those ignorant and veiled woman that support this treatment are themselves emotionally abused and should seek treatment at a Western Facility, if they are not cowards. Do not defend female circumcision, cruel medieval rites and abuse of woman and human life in the name of the disgusting Islamic religion. Do not whine about silent majorities and the failure of your leaders to act. Act like civilized beings or you will be treated like animals, as many of your women already are. In the interest of those ignorant fools who have no idea of my sex or faith, it doesn't matter. For those ignorant fools that actually believe they have done more for their fellow Muslims than I, because you pray 5 times a day and cover yourself in black sheets, stop fooling yourselves. I have personally saved more Muslim lives around the world than you have defending the victims of your faith. It's easy to attack and criticize writers, but you are afraid to criticize and attack Osama and other disgusting Imams by name, because of fear of retribution against your lives. And you are right to fear, because you are cowardly dogs, poor, ignorant and one of the most backward moving communities on this earth. As nations far poorer and less blessed than those under the Islamic faith continue to move forward and progress, the Muslims continue to whine about colonialism, racism, and religious discrimination. While Islamic terrorists bomb civilians, the faithful support these offensive actions, while stating, silently, as they live in the West, we support you. I look for the day the Quran is soaked in a glass box of piss and put in a display in a museum. Now this is a test of religious maturity. How does tolerant Islam conduct itself in such a case. You know the answer, you know the truth but you hide from it. Shame on you, and keep your faces covered in shame.

I first want to apologize to Mo for helping deviate from the topic! I promise it will be a single post.

Second I want to thank Californian for his posts, as they allowed LouLou and Twosret to really ram his logic with their precise and well-researched answers. Thus emphasizing the fact that the average American continues to see the world through very naive eyes.

Finally, I want to also thank both "disgusted" punks for displaying the other type of American, the one the breeds people like Bush and Rumsfeld, which suffers from the centuries-old disease that caused the invasion of the Americas and the oppression of the native's rights. May God rid us of your likes... Amen!

Now on a different note. I wanted to relate a small story as a Canadian. A few weeks back I suffered a head injury involving sports equipment. As I lost blood and began feeling sick my family decided that I had to be taken to the hospital (it was a weekend).

Oddly enough (if thinking with Californian's logic) I was actually examined by triage almost immediately on arrival. I was then sent to be examined by the doctor.

Doctor cleaned and stapled the wound, had the nurse give me the Td (Tetanus, Diphtheria) shot, AND provided me with the tool to remove the staples asking me to do it a week later at any nearby doctor's office (which was done by my next-door clinic).

Oh... I forgot to mention that all this was done FREE OF CHARGE. I paid zero dollars in the whole affair. Even the vaccine and the tool were free.

Bottomline is, you can argue all you want about the troubles in our health system (us being Canadian). But the fact of the matter us, it's GREAT!

Now in the spririt of going back to the subject. I wanted to first offer my condolenscens to the victims and their families (condolensces, NOT apologies... for I have nothing to do with as another blogger mentioned).

Second, to those people who still prefer to stay in the dark and pretend that US/UK foreign policy has nothing to do with this, and those who were trying to criticize Canada. I have a quick question:

Why the hell doesn't anyone try and bomb us Canadians?!! (instead of bombing Americans, and rarely Brits)

Canada for the longest time has realized that the only "acceptable" way of interfering with another, sovereign state is by providing assistance without forcing it.

This is way the Canadian passport is accepted for entry into many countries without a visa (some of which do not allow entrance to US or UK passport holders in the same situation).

People are not violent by nature. Everybody prefers to live a normal life and enjoy their family and friends. When someone choose to go against all odds it is usually a desperate reaction to someone else's action.

So... WAKE UP (thanks to Rage Against The Machines)

The One, if they decide to bomb Canada, I would probably go defend it.

Canada's health system is great, but you do have to wait for months for an operation, and nurses are fleeing to the states for better pay.

You know what the problem with Canada is? the US.

"You know what the problem with Canada is? the US."

I couldn't have said it any better. I find it curious though that you "love" Canada so much. I mean, I love Canada myself, but I had to move to it from Egypt and see for myself before I developed my affection for Canada!

So do tell, why is this the case?! (it didn't sound like you've been here before!)

Mohammed: Thank heaven for sensible progressive voices like yours to remind us that Muslims and Arabs come in all political flavors. I am a liberal American who despises Gorge W's war policy. I don't even digify it by calling it a foreigh policy. We have proof that the Iraq War was trumped up in advance in the Downing Street Memos, and yet we don't act. As of a couple of days ago we also have proof of smeone in the Bush administration who identified a CIA agent to the press (an illegal act) as revenge for the agent's husband having disagreed with Bush's war policy.
